The
School-to-Prison Pipeline: Why You Should Care
By now you may have heard
about the class-action lawsuit brought by
the ACLU of Texas against Hidalgo County
(coverage from The Monitor in McAllen) for
its unconstitutional practice of jailing teens who
are unable to pay truancy fines.
Watch
Gouri Bhat, the lead attorney in the case against
Hidalgo, discuss why the ACLU of Texas has taken a
special interest in truancy as part of the ACLU of
Texas'
Focus on Learning in Texas Classrooms
campaign against the school-to-prison pipeline.
Personally, I was charged
as a parent for KNOWINGLY CONTRIBUTING TO MY
CHILD'S DELINQUENCY 6 yrs ago. The District
Attorney told me that I am also to be charged
cause that was what THE law stated and called for!
I told him that I will see him in court and he can
have fun trying to explain to the jury their
consequences should their children decide to skip
school without their knowledge. All charges against me were dropped .
But when my son faced the judge he imposed
community service & counseling (how I met
Pastor Crain from the Restoration Center for
counseling services), and the judge then stated "Im sorry bout all
this #%@&* its just all about making more money
for the school districts. After further research
on my part (can't help myself) The N.I.S.D here in
San Antonio has a staff with a administrator
handling the truancy problem and is funded in part by a
large portion from fines collected by the courts imposed on
parents & students. Therefore; it is my professional
opinion that this school district department &
staff contribute to this injustice just to keep
their newly formed department & staff in
business! I am appalled that some of these parents
& children are in jail simply cause they cannot
afford the fines imposed on them, while these so
called professional educators are enjoying their
highly paid lifestyle. I just don't know how they
can sleep at night. Thank God for the ACLU for
taking up this issue.. Remember, "Freedom Can't
Protect Itself"................
............................................................................................................
On another very important issue that may come to
light with the ACLU. I just exhausted myself reading all
the brief's n opinions in the Right to have
religious services vs. the City of Leon
Valley Tx,
coming soon to a federal court near you. I just
can't believe all these highly paid court juris
that can't interpet the 1st & 14th Amendments of the
Constitution.....
I'm So
Mad
even though I have
to keep my blood pressure in check, should I ever have a
heart attack at least it will be due to working on
the right thing and not the popular.

ACLU
Advocacy
and Policy
Exactly one year ago on August 15th is my
anniversary date of suffering a stroke and as I
still sit in this wheelchair but feeling much
better. I am also wondering with all this racism
and inmigration problems and now this truancy
problems in Hidalgo and the right to have church
services in Leon Valley, is the world
around me falling apart?
Maybe it's a good thing that I just can't
Runaway to Tuscany and leave these troubles
behind. Just maybe God has a plan for me to stay
and help win a few more battles.
God Bless
